Eligible flights must be booked through American Express Travel® online at AmexTravel.com , through the Amex Travel App, or by calling the number on the back of your Card.

This can be a useful offer for Platinum cardholders who already have paid airfare they might want to book through Amex Travel. Spending exactly $1,000 would work out to an effective 20% rebate, before factoring in any Membership Rewards points earned on the purchase.
The main limitation is that it only applies to select airlines and qualifying Platinum Member Airfares, so not every flight booked through Amex Travel will qualify. Also make sure to compare price with booking direct.
