Amex Adds LHW Leaders Club as 4:1 Transfer Partner
American Express Membership Rewards has added Leading Hotels of the World Leaders Club as its newest transfer partner, giving cardholders a new way to redeem points at more than 400 independent luxury hotels around the world.
Membership Rewards points transfer to Leaders Club at a 4:1 ratio, meaning 1,000 Amex points become 250 Leaders Club points. Transfers must be made in increments of 1,000 points, and Amex currently estimates that transfers can take up to 72 hours. But most likely you will get your points instantly.
This is Amex’s fourth hotel transfer partner and its 20th transfer partner overall. It also gives Amex a better transfer ratio than Citi ThankYou Rewards, which currently transfers to Leaders Club at a 5:1 ratio.

As with other Amex transfer partners, transfers are final. You should confirm award availability and the total number of Leaders Club points required before moving any Membership Rewards points.
What Is Leading Hotels of the World?
Leading Hotels of the World is a collection of more than 400 independent luxury hotels across more than 80 countries. Unlike a traditional hotel chain, LHW does not operate the properties. Instead, it brings together independent hotels under one marketing and loyalty platform.
The portfolio includes well-known luxury properties and smaller independent resorts and hotels that are not easily accessible through the major hotel loyalty programs.
Leaders Club uses dynamic award pricing, so the number of points required varies by property, dates, room rate and award availability. Reward nights can start at 4,500 Leaders Club points, but luxury properties can require substantially more.
On average you can expect a value of about 8 cents per point. At the 4:1 transfer ratio, that could produce roughly 2 cents in value per Amex Membership Rewards point. That is a pretty good average value for a hotel transfer partner.
LHW Sterling Status for Amex Platinum Cardholders
This new transfer partnership is not the first connection between American Express and Leading Hotels of the World.
When Amex revamped the Platinum Card® and Business Platinum Card® in 2025, one of the new benefits was complimentary Leaders Club Sterling status for eligible U.S. consumer and business Platinum cardholders.
Sterling status normally requires $5,000 in qualifying LHW spending during a calendar year and includes:
- Priority for room upgrades at check-in
- Daily continental breakfast for two
- Early check-in and late checkout consideration
- Complimentary in-room Wi-Fi
- 5 pre-arrival upgrades annually
- A 5% bonus on points earned from qualifying stays
- Sixt Platinum status
The breakfast and five annual pre-arrival upgrade requests could be particularly useful at expensive luxury properties.
Is This a Good Use of Amex Points?
The 4:1 ratio initially looks like a bad deal, especially when comparing transfer ratios with other transfer partners. But Leaders Club points are considerably more valuable than most hotel currencies. A redemption worth around 8 cents per Leaders Club point would translate into about two cents per Membership Rewards point after accounting for the transfer ratio.
The partnership is also useful because it opens up redemptions at independent luxury hotels that may not otherwise be bookable efficiently with transferable points.
However, there are several things to consider. LHW properties often have expensive cash rates, so even a good cents-per-point valuation may still require a large Membership Rewards transfer. Some award bookings may also have taxes and fees due at checkout.
Many properties may also be part of American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection, so it’s worth checking rates there as well before transferring points since you get some extra benefits.

This is one of the more interesting hotel transfer partners Amex has added. The 4:1 ratio sounds poor at first, but Leaders Club points can be valuable enough to make it a good option. It can be especially useful at expensive independent hotels that cannot easily be booked with other transferable currencies. The partnership also makes the complimentary Sterling status offered through the Platinum and Business Platinum cards more useful.
