The Southwest experience is evolving as the airline is preparing to launch its lounge network. Reports from the Nashville Business Journal and recent comments from CEO Bob Jordan confirm that Southwest is moving forward with a $53 million premium lounge at Nashville International Airport (BNA).

The information comes from permits and project documents. The filings describe an extensive interior build-out with a clear public-facing presence, though specifics have not yet been disclosed.

This massive shift for a carrier that historically avoided the lounge game marks a strategic pivot toward a more premium business model designed to capture high-value travelers. Documents reveal the lounge will be situated in the terminal’s center mezzanine area.

While Nashville is the current focus, leadership has indicated that this project is part of an initial trio of cities that includes Honolulu and Denver. Other possible locations are Baltimore (BWI), San Diego (SAN), Las Vegas (LAS) and Phoenix (PHX).

The biggest question remains how passengers will gain entry. Maybe a premium card is in the works, or a revamp of the A-List Preferred program.
