Rakuten Offering 22% Cash Back at Viator
Rakuten is one of my favorite shopping portals. They normally have great earning rates for many merchants and you can earn Amex Membership Rewards points. That makes most cashback rates about 50% better at least.
If you don’t have a Rakuten account, then you can sign up now to earn $30 or 3,000 Amex points. And then you can start taking advantage of limited time offers every Wednesday through the end of August.
One of those offers is live today. You can earn 22% cash back or 22X Amex points for every $1 you spend on Viator bookings. Viator is a platform that sells tours and activities around the world, offering a selection of over 300,000 experiences.
It’s always important to check the terms:
- Exclusions: Cash Back will be paid out on completed tours only. Cash Back is not available if card-linked offers, discount codes, or staff and student discount codes are used. Cash Back is not available on theme park purchases and virtual tours. Cash Back is not eligible for bookings made via Viator Travel Agent Program. Cash Back is not available on gift vouchers or purchases made with gift vouchers. Purchases must be made through viator.com to be eligible for Cash Back (app-to-app sales are not eligible).
- Special Terms: Use of coupon/promotional codes not listed on Rakuten may void Cash Back.
- Posting Time: Cash Back will be added to your Rakuten account within a couple of weeks after travel has been completed.
How Rakuten Works
Rakuten is one of the many cash-back shopping portals that pays you a percentage back when you shop online through its links. As mentioned above, Rakuten stands out as it lets you select if you want to earn cash back or Amex Membership Rewards.
After signing up, you search for the retailer you want to shop with on Rakuten’s website or app, click through to the store, and complete your purchase as usual.
Rakuten tracks your purchase and earns a commission from the retailer, and then shares a portion of that commission back with you as cash back or Amex Points. So if Rakuten offers 10% back at a certain merchants and you spend $100, you will earn either $10 or 1,000 Amex points.
The cash back you earn is then paid out every quarter via PayPal or check. If you select to earn Amex points, those are transferred to your Membership Rewards account every quarter.
You can also install the Rakuten browser extension to automatically activate cash back when shopping online, making it an easy way to save money on purchases you are already planning to make.
