IndyCar and Indianapolis 500 icon Dario Franchitti is the latest guest on series 10 of the award-winning podcast Fuelling Around.
Franchitti is a four-time IndyCar champion and three-time Indie 500 winner and is now a co-commentator for Formula E.
He sat down with hosts Jason Plato and Dave Vitty to discuss his career so far, wanting to go to the Isle of Man TT and his epic car collection.
Dario Franchitti on wanting to go to the Isle of Man TT
During his chat with the boys, Franchitti revealed his desire to witness the IoM TT in person now that his schedule is less hectic since retiring from racing.
“I’ve never been because it always coincided with Indy,” Franchitti, who spoke at length about the amazing motors that are in his garage during the episode, stated.
“I said this year I’m going because I want to see John McGuinness, I want to see him ride. Me and a couple of others are going to head over.
“I think you know IndyCar is pretty mental, but the boys that race on the roads, I take my hat off to them. You have to give them the ultimate respect. Their skill level, their bravery, incredible.”
Plato concurred: “I think they’re very brave. When I went, and the same when I went to Indy, I literally couldn’t believe it. The telly is great and it captures it, but when you see it and you feel it and you hear it. Oh my.”
Franchitti intercepted: “It’s the energy of it, if you stand at turn one at Silverstone now and all the F1 cars go through or Donnington going down to Redgate with the touring cars boys, you go ‘woah’. It’s that energy, the concussion in the air almost, that noise, that assault on the senses, that’s what TV doesn’t give you.”
