We’ve all heard about paying the mortgage with a credit card, something that wasn’t possible until very recently.

It still technically isn’t a direct option, but companies like Mesa and Bilt are making it happen in a roundabout way.

And beginning next year, homeowners will be able to pay their mortgage through Venmo thanks to a new partnership with Bilt.

The pair announced a new deal that allows Bilt users to pay the mortgage via Venmo while earning Bilt rewards points in the process.

The flexibility of Venmo could also make it easier for co-borrowers to pay the mortgage each month.

Bilt Users Will Be Able to Make Mortgage Payments Through Venmo

The new partnership seeks to reinvent how people pay their rent or monthly mortgage payment each month.

We already know Bilt is rolling out a way to get rewarded for each mortgage payment you make.

And companies like Mesa allow you to earn one point for every dollar of your mortgage each month, as long as you spend $1,000 each billing cycle on their Mesa Homeowners Card.

This takes things a step further by adding Venmo to the list of payment options for Bilt users, alongside classic options like ACH, debit, and any linked credit card.

Essentially, Bilt members will be able to pay their rent/mortgage directly in the Bilt app or the Venmo app using a Venmo account balance, linked bank, and possibly a linked card?

Not sure on the card part yet because Venmo charges users 3% when they send money via credit card.

Anyway, this new tie-up combines Bilt’s rent and rewards network (and soon to be mortgage rewards) with “Venmo’s trusted and social payment experience, giving millions of renters and homeowners a simple, flexible, and rewarding way to pay each month.”

One possible perk for Bilt Members, aside from earning points on rent or the mortgage, is the ability to complete monthly mortgage payments in just a few taps.

I don’t know about you, but my mortgage loan servicers don’t have the greatest smartphone apps or websites.

They’re pretty clunky and since I don’t use autopay, I have to visit their website each month and do the whole song and dance to make a payment.

I assume using Venmo would be a lot quicker and easier, especially if you are able to set up recurring payments.

You could simply schedule the payments via the app and ensure the mortgage is paid each month.

My understanding is you can even make weekly, monthly, and biweekly payments (hello biweekly mortgage payments!).

You’ll Be Able to Split Mortgage Payments Using Venmo and Get Rewarded

What’s more interesting is if you happen to have roommates or co-borrowers on your mortgage.

If making mortgage payments through Venmo with a co-borrower or roommate, you can likely make split payments.

Venmo allows you to split a specific transaction, such as a mortgage payment, or split payments on a regular basis by using the Venmo Groups feature.

It also helps you manage and track group expenses, and will automatically split the payment into equal amounts for all group members.

Not sure how often that would be a thing, but it’s an interesting thought, especially if everyone wants to earn points for their share of the housing payment.

Or if you have roommates/tenants that pay you via Venmo, you can then just transfer that money along to your loan servicer without having to move money around twice.

Venmo referred to the move as one of the first steps in its broader strategy to transform from a peer-to-peer payments app into an “everyday commerce platform.”

I suppose to operate more like a bank where you can pay for core expenses like your rent or mortgage, instead of just paying friends for dinner.

The new feature is expected to roll out in early 2026, along with the ability to earn Bilt points for paying the mortgage.

As for showing everyone (flexing) how much your mortgage payment is each month through the social feed on Venmo, I’m not so sure.
